Cool piece, Roger.
What is a lightmap?

Thanks! It works a bit like a gradient, I guess. The newest version of M3D has it. In the 'colours' menu there's a checkbox for 'use lightmap for diffuse colour' - check it and it gives you a choice of maybe 15 presets. You can use any jpeg or bmp - best size is apparently 800 up and 400 across. Just stick it in your Maps folder in M3D and give it a number so the programme can find it. It's a great way of colouring stuff!
Cheers!
Roger

This looks fun. Thanks.
I must see what Eva does if she uses it.

I've stopped using MB3 because it takes so long to work on my computer.
Perhaps I'll try again when dull winter days come back. :)

The trick is to do everything at low quality settings in preview mode. Then do a high quality PREVIEW or even a mid quality render to see how things look...and finish off with a high quality 3000 wide render. Don't forget that you can do all the lighting and colouring and add a background after making the render; it changes very fast. This is one of the most wonderful features of M3D. So, once the high quality render is there you can save 10 different versions with different lighting, colouring, backgrounds etc... :)

Thanks Roger. Yes, I get that.
Still I'm always impatient.
Don't forget that I run the programme on Windows on a Mac and I think all operations are slowed down by that.
The truth is I still haven't got to grips with Mb3D. :)

I worked through Hal Tenny's tutorials again. They really help!! Fiery Fire's amazing box tute is also great. After doing them I understand just about everything, though there seem to be tricks which take experience to learn... studying and tweaking other people's params are a good way to go to accumulate that knowledge, but like I say, make a big cup of patience and coffee and do those tutorials first to get the basics...it's worth it, M3D makes the most amazing stuff!!
